Shirley Simpson, 72 SPENCERVILLE -- Shirley Simpson, 72, of Prescott, died at Brockville General Hospital on November 7. She was born on July 10, 1932 in Mountain Township to Johnston Cleland and the former Velma Gilmer. She attended school in South Mountain and after graduating from high school started her career in banking. She met her future husband Keith Simpson in the fall of 1951 and they were married on June 5, 1954 in South Mountain United Church. Mrs. Simpson worked for the Bank of Montreal until her son Lowell was born, at which time she stayed home until Lowell began school. She then returned to work for the Bank of Montreal. Later she took a teller position with the Royal Bank in Prescott and continued to work there for several years until she transferred to the Royal Bank in Spencerville, where she worked until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church in Prescott. Among her many interests, she loved doing needlepoint, baking, gardening and growing flowers. She is survived by her husband Keith, son Lowell and grandchildren Tyler and Dylan. Friends called at Grant Brown Funeral Home-Purcell Chapel, Spencerville on November 9. The funeral was held in the chapel of the funeral home on November 10, with Rev. Carol Delisle officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland. The pallbearers were Jack Murdock, Todd Simpson, Matt Hayes, Henry Smith, Guy Malisant and Eldon Bailey. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society will be gratefully acknowledged.
