Burton 'Bud' Bowman, 93 Burton "Bud" Bowman, 93, died November 3 at Providence Continuing Care Centre, St. Vincent de Paul Site, in Brockville. He was born John Burton Bowman on March 21, 1911 at Jellyby to John Bowman and his wife, the former Edna Davis. At a very young age he moved with his parents to North Augusta, where he attended North Augusta's public school and continuation school. On September 9, 1944, he married Marion Ellen Greaves in St. James Anglican Church, Jellyby. Rev. William Body officiated. They lived most of their married life in North Augusta and for over 50 years Mr. Bowman delivered mail from North Augusta to Bellamy Station. When he first started, it was a "stage route" and he carried passengers to and from the train station at Bellamy. He enjoyed farming and had a dairy farm of purebred Holsteins, and later raised Simmental beef cattle. He was an avid sportsman and in his youth played hardball and hockey. He was a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays. He enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting, and was a skilled marksman. Mr. Bowman was an active lifelong member of St. Peter's Anglican Church in North Augusta, where he had been baptized and confirmed. His main interest was his family, especially his grandchildren and later his great-grandchildren. He and his wife enjoyed travelling and had many interesting vacations in Canada, the U.S. and abroad. Because of his ill health, they sold their farm in 1999 and moved to Brockville's north end. He suffered a stroke in October 1999 and was a resident of Providence Continuing Care Centre, St. Vincent de Paul Site, until his death. He was predeceased by his sister Irene Ralph McNeil and a brother Lorne. He is survived by his wife Marion; daughter Joy Jones and husband Robert of RR 1, Prescott; son Barry Bowman and wife Karen of North Augusta; granddaughter Holly Jones of Brockville and grandson Brian Jones and his wife Johanna of Algonquin; and two great-grandsons, Matthew Wichers-Schreur and Andrew Jones and great-granddaughter Sarah Jones. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law Helen Munch of Trail, B.C., and Ruth Greaves of Brockville. Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, on November 5. The funeral was held November 6 in St. Peter's Anglican Church, North Augusta, with burial following in the adjoining cemetery. Canon Claude Delorme officiated. The active pallbearers were John Baker, James Lewars, Gordon Cole, Lorne Murdock, Bob Botham and Jim Finucan. Honorary pallbearers were Margaret and Glen VanAllen, Gale Sprigings, Heather and Ada Clifford, Les Clifford (in absentia) and Betty Finucan. Memorial donations were directed to St. Peter's Church, Providence CCC, St. Vincent site, the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Gideons.
