Larry Davy, 82 CARDINAL -- Laurence "Larry" Davy died November 22 at Brockville General Hospital with his family by his side. He was born October 3, 1922 in Grimsby, Ont., near St. Catharines, to John Davy, a native of London, England, and the former Doris Weaver, a native of Wales. He spent his early youth in Bowmanville, Ont., moving to the Cardinal area at the age of 12, where he lived the rest of his life, except for time served with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). He joined the RCAF in 1942, during the Second World War and was stationed on the west coast, in and around Victoria, B.C. He attained the rank of corporal and on his release from service in 1946 received a Canadian Volunteer Service medal. On June 6, 1945 he married Marie Fairfield at Sacred Heart Church in Cardinal. They were married for 55 years until her death in 1999. Mr. Davy was employed at Casco Inc., the starch plant in Cardinal, as a millwright mechanic for 40 years until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 105 and the Knights of Columbus, where he was an honorary life member. An avid hockey fan, he was a staunch supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs. His main interests centred on his home and family. He operated a small dairy farm for many years and continued to plant a vegetable garden right up until the summer prior to his death. He spent many summers camping at Lower Beverley Lake Township Park. Besides his wife, Mr. Davy was predeceased by his parents and a brother Ken. He is survived by four sons and three daughters, Bernie and wife Ann, Marylyn Adams and husband Terry, Mark and wife Cheryl, Dan and wife Roxanne, all of Prescott, Paul and wife Lillian and June Simpson and husband Tom, all of Cardinal, and Laura O'Brien and husband Bob of Maitland, as well as 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers, Douglas, Leonard, Donald and Allan and wife Evelyn, all of Cardinal, and Lionel and wife Marjorie of Prescott, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Cardinal. The funeral was held November 24 at Sacred Heart Church, with Father John Appelman officiating. Burial followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery. The pallbearers were nephews Terry and Barry Davy, great-nephew Derek Davy and grandsons Michael and Lee Davy and Scott O'Brien. The remaining grandchildren served as honorary bearers. Members of the Knights of Columbus formed an honour guard at the church. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Sacred Heart Church and other charities were gratefully acknowledged by the family.
