Mary Francis, 92 Mary Isobella Francis, 92, died Christmas Day at Brockville General Hospital. Formerly of RR 3, Brockville, she had been a resident of Maple View Lodge, near Athens, since May 2004. She was born October 25, 1912 in Hulbert, Ont., to Joseph Thorpe and the former Miriam Myers. She attended Hulbert Public School and Iroquois High School, then Ottawa Normal School. The day before she was to take her final exam, her brother was killed. She returned home and worked on the family farm and later at the general store in Brinston. She married Cledis Francis on June 1, 1939 in Hulbert and they came to Brockville in 1941, moving to RR 3, Brockville in 1954. She lived there until this past spring. Mrs. Francis was a housewife who belonged to Christ United Church in Lyn and particularly enjoyed gardening and quilting. She was a member of the Stone Church restoration committee, serving as its chairman for a number of years. The committee raised funds to restore and maintain the old stone church at Yonge Mills after it was no longer used for weekly services. A special annual service is held there each June. She is survived by her son Donald Gordon Francis of Morrisburg and daughter Gail Marie Parslow and husband Claude Parslow of RR 2, Lyn, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Francis and Betty Baker, and five nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Luva Thorpe, brother Earl Thorpe, sister-in-law Esther Francis and brothers-in-law Donald Francis and Thomas Francis. Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, where on December 28 the funeral was held, with Rev. Allan McDowell, of Christ United Church, Lyn, officiating. Burial followed at Oakland Cemetery. The honorary pallbearers were Phyllis Harper, Sean, Mark, Joyce and Leon Edgley and Ken Kelly. Memorial donations were directed to Maple View Lodge, Athens, and to Christ United Church, Lyn.
