Gerald David Willis March 17, 1935 - July 15, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) WILLIS, Gerald David - Parkland Drive, Halifax, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Fredericton, N.B., March 17, 1935, he was the eldest son of the late LeRoy and Viola (Clayton) Willis. Gerald attended school and worked in Fredericton until 1956, at which time he relocated to Nova Scotia and was employed as accountant for Nova Scotia Light and Power and later the Hughes Group of Companies in Windsor as comptroller. He moved back to New Brunswick in 1977 and was employed by Ganong Brothers Ltd., St. Stephen, holding positions in Sales and Credit Management, Administrative and Cost Accounting. When he retired in 1988, due to health reasons, he was corporate secretary. Gerald was always involved in his Church being treasurer and Chairman of Stewards of the United Church in Windsor, and Elder and Sunday School Superintendent of the United Church in St. Stephen. He also served as treasurer of St. John's Presbyterian Church, Windsor and chairperson of the Board of Managers at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Halifax. He was a past president of the Windsor Elms Auxiliary; Hants West Cancer Society and Hants West Liberal Association and served as president of the Atlantic Provinces Jaycees in 1969-70, being honored for his contribution to this organization by receiving Senatorship No. 9113 in 1968. He was also the initial president of H.C.C.C. No. 228 serving nearly two terms. Gerald was an enthusiastic member of the Atlantic Presbyterian Cursillo movement serving in various capacities on the leadership team including those of Rector and Proctor and was much appreciated and beloved by the members of that group. Since 1992, Gerald was also an active member of the Open Heart Support Group, Maritime Heart Centre and served as team leader. At the time of his passing he was a member of Kirk Session and the Calvin Church choir. Gerald lived life to the fullest and enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, skating and following his Boston Red Sox and other Boston sport teams since 1948. Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Doreen (Collins-Little); brothers, Robert (Peggy), Douglas, both of New Brunswick; several nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Kim Bustin (Chris), Jeff Little (Erika); beloved grandchildren, Jenna, Sara and Emma. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, August 5, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. In celebration of Gerald's life a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 6, in Calvin Presbyterian Church, 3311 Ashburn Ave., Halifax, conducted by Rev. Sydney McDonald. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvin Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. On-line condolences may be made to:
