Thelma Muriel Stingley February 27, 1919 - August 11, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Evergreen Funeral Home On Wednesday, August 11, 2004, Mrs. Thelma Stingley, surrounded by her loving family, passed away peacefully in the devoted care of the palliative care unit at the Edmonton General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Thelma treasured her independence and maintained her home in the Highlands until her illness in January. She loved hockey and spent countless hours cheering the grandchildren on. Thelma was also a loyal Oilers fan and attended numerous games over the years. She loved her bingo and the occasional trip to Vegas but her most cherished time was when she was with her family and seldom missed a birthday party or special holiday get-together. Thelma is survived by her daughters: Sharon (Clarence) Muzyka and Diane Sinclair, both of Edmonton; her son Jay (Daryl Lynn) Stingley; her daughter-in-law Joan Stingley; her son-in-law Jim Sinclair all of St. Albert. She will also be missed by her sister Aurora (Eric) Lunnin of Edmonton; her brothers: Gordon (Dorothy) Haugen of North Vancouver and Darwin Haugen of Regina, she will also be lovingly remembered by her 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Thelma was predeceased by her husband Clay in 1978, her brother Austin Haugen in 1978, her son James in 2001, her grandson Bryan in 1990, and by her sister-in-law Iris Haugen. The family offers their most sincere appreciation to all of the staff at: The University Hospital; The Cross Cancer Clinic; The General Hospital; The General Hospital Palliative Care Unit 9Y; Dr. Jean Johnston and Dr. Paul Wong for the kindness and consideration given to mom while in their care. Our special thanks is extended to the nurses and staff at Canterbury Court for the devotion and care they gave to mom during her final months. She loved her friends there. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Thelma may be made to the Stollery Children's Hospital, 4th Floor Aberhart Centre One, 11402 University Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T6G 2J3
