WELDON, Elizabeth, Known to friends as Beth, passed to a better life free from pain on December 30, 2004, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Beth was born, educated, and worked in Canada. She met her husband David Heyliger of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands in 1962, lived in St. Croix in the 1960-70's and returned there upon retirement. Beth worked for over 20 years at Niagara College and assumed the same position of Chief Information Officer at the University of the Virgin Islands i n 2003. She was also a music director for many churches from the age of 15, including Lundy's Lane United and Drummond Hill Presbyterian in Niagara Falls, and most recently St. Patrick's Roman Catholic in St. Croix. Beth loved the Virgin Islands and its people and they welcomed her into the community and held her close while she travelled a long, hard road. The mutual love and respect exchanged between Beth and her friends and colleagues in Niagara was an extraordinary bond and a strong support in good times and bad. She was grateful for the love outpoured by all. The many prayers said on her behalf brought her peace, comfort and freedom from pain for many more months than expected. Beth leaves behind her husband David Alexander Heyliger of St. Croix. She will be missed by her family - all in Canada - daughter Lori Weldon, son-in-law Neil Cosby and granddaughter Kyla, by daughter Lisa Lubin and son-in-law Ray and grandson Marcus, by adopted granddaughter Brooke, by sister Cathy Boyle, brother-in-law Andy, nieces Natasha and Talia and nephew Jamie, by brother Jim Weldon, sister-in-law Sherry and nieces Cindy, Wendy, and Laura, and by other members of the Lawler-Weldon families. Her friends and relatives also include Pennie McVicar of Niagara Falls, a friend for over 20 years, as well as colleagues at UVI and Niagara College.
