Mary Elizabeth Powell December 21, 1913 - August 07, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) Mary passed away peacefully at Cowichan District Hospital, Duncan, BC on August 7, 2004 after a brief illness. Mary was born in Vancouver on December 21, 1913, one of four girls to Lewis and Elizabeth Powell. Mary lived her entire life in the city until she came to Youbou in 1992 to live with her sister Irene. They were good company for each other, becoming good pals. Mary was a very private person and sometimes the large extended family of her sister, Irene Seed became overwhelming. She was predeceased by her sister, Elsie (1990), North Vancouver. Survived by sisters, Irene of Youbou and Grace of Langley, as well as many nieces and nephews. In her early years of life, her most treasured moments were in church, and spending time enjoying good music, reading and traveling. Mary was a responsible career woman in her chosen field of secretarial work. In her later years, Mary left us bit by bit through Alzheimer’s and it was heart breaking to see her struggle with this disease. Mary will be missed by all who loved her. Heartfelt thanks for the gentle care Mary received at the hospital. Thank you to Mary’s doctor - Dr. P. Postuk, also the care from the Cowichan Home Support workers and all caregivers. Sincere thanks to Reverend Terry Finch for his interest and comforting words. A Memorial Service was held at the Lake Cowichan United Church on Thursday, August 12, 2004 at 1:00 pm. The Reverend Terry Finch officiated. Following cremation, interment took place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Burnaby, BC In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the S.P.C.A.
