Carl Sidney Fleck 1920 - 2004 Carl Sidney Fleck, formerly of Robinson Street, Moncton, NB, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, February 28, 2004 at the Veterans' Health Center Moncton, following a lengthy illness. Born January 13, 1920 in Middle Stewiacke, Colchester County, NS, he was the son of the late Sidney Fleck and the late Jane McCulloch. Carl was a Veteran of The Second World War, having served as an Air Gunner with the RCAF. He received the US Air Medal for meritorious service for his participation in the North African campaign. Following the war, he lived and worked in the Annapolis Valley, employed with Transport Canada as a Radio Operator. He was stationed in the Arctic on Resolute Bay in the early 1950s and then transferred to Moncton working the remainder of his career at the Moncton Airport. He retired in November, 1980 after 32 years of dedicated service. He was a long standing member and past President of the 253 Wing RCAF Association, and the Royal Canadian Legion Moncton Branch #6. Prior to Carl's failing health, he was an avid fly fisherman and bird watcher. He had special fishing holes he would go to, but the best ones he would always say were in his beloved Stewiacke Valley. He enjoyed gardening, making his special "Bean" suppers on Saturday nights and his home brew. He also loved fiddle music, his favorite being Don Messer and often times he would entertain us with his version of the Middle Stewiacke "stomp". He was a quiet man with a great sense of humour, who loved and was loved by his family. He will remain forever in our hearts until we meet again. Carl will be deeply missed by his wife of 47 years, Geneva (Malenfant); his son, Carl Jr. (Rozalie Martin) of Cambridge, ON; six daughters, Elizabeth Jane Fleck-Lawrence (Percy), Geor-Jan Andrews (Ross), Eva Fleck of Riverview and Kathyrn-Ann Leger of Moncton, Carol Brennan (Jim) of St. Catherines, ON, Sandra Bondy of Windsor, ON; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Geddes of Middle Stewiacke, NS; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Irene (Benvie) Fleck of Brookfield, NS; two sisters, Greta and Vera; two brothers, Ronald and Gordon and his beloved dog, Mickey. At Carl's request, there will be no visitation prior to the Legion Memorial Service at 1:45 in the Chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home, Tuesday, March 2, 2004 the funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00 pm.
