Marion Margaret (MacDonald) Atkinson NEW MINAS, KENTVILLE - Marion Margaret (MacDonald) Atkinson, 73, New Minas, Kings County, passed away at home with her loving family at her side on March 15, 2004, following her courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, G. Kenneth Atkinson. Born in Miramichi, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Eva (Sturgeon) MacDonald, Blackville, New Brunswick. Marion grew up in Blackville, worked at Eaton's in Moncton, Weston's Bakery in Kingston and Cameron & Fraser in New Glasglow. This charming lady was an active member in the United Church throughout her life. She was a loving wife and mother who was extremely talented, enjoying a wide range of activities throughout her life, including Square & Round dancing with her husband in both New Glasglow and the Annapolis Valley. Whether quilting, oil painting or decorating, she had a natural talent and ability to excel. A crossword puzzle fanatic, Marion enjoyed sharing her humorous outlook with her family and many friends she made throughout her life. A devoted mother, she is survived by her two daughters, Karen Cummings, New Minas and Beverly (Jack) MacDonald, Thorburn, Pictou County. She was a proud grandmother of Ross and Steven MacDonald and Adam and Matt Cummings; and a caring sister of Vivian (Charles) McDonald, Blackville, Elroy (Eileen) MacDonald, Brantford,Ontario, Rhoda Connors, Blackville, Sheila (Sterling) Vickers, Miramichi, Lois (Lester) Vickers, Blackville, James (Elizabeth) MacDonald, Blackville. Marion was also blessed with numerous loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Ralph and Grant MacDonald. Following cremation, there will be visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 in the W.C. Hiltz / White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A celebration of Marion's life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004 in the New Minas Baptist Church, Pastor Terry Atkinson (her nephew) officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens, New Glasglow. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses.
