CHAMPION, H. Garth Peacefully at home on December 24th, 2004 after a courageous battle with A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Garth Champion of Ottawa, born and raised in Spring Valley, P.E.I. Beloved husband of Claudette (nee St-Denis) and loving father to Michelle (Martyn) Mirfield. Son of the late Harold and Mae Champion of Summerside, P.E.I. and dear brother of Barry (Gail) Champion of Abbottsford, B.C. and Dawna (Scott) Peacock of Halifax, N.S. He will be lovingly remembered by many family members and friends including Guy and Liliane Villeneuve, Claude and Claire Levesque, Rene and Diane St-Denis, Denis Duford and Ray Brackett. Garth was retired from the National Research Council where he worked for 38 years and was a dedicated and long-time volunteer for both the Ottawa Ski Club Aid and Rescue (OSCAR) and Canadian Ski Marathon organizations. The family wishes to express a most sincere and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Margaret Farncombe, Caroline Tibbles and the rest of Garth's palliative support team as well as to Diane Tierney. A Funeral Service will be held at St-Aidan's Anglican Church, 955 Wingate Drive, Ottawa, on Friday December 31st, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Outreach Program (723-1184) or to the Champlain Regional Office of the Ontario A.L.S.
