Beloved wife of the late Tony Whitty and the late Peter Chrastina; daughter of the late Alfred Fuchs and the late Hedwig Fuchs; dear mother of Dorrit (Lonnie), Vernon, BC; Judy, Vancouver, BC and Michael (Liane), North Hero, VT. Proud grandmother of Carrie (Jim), Mission, BC, Kurt (Leah) Chilliwack, BC, and great-grandmother of Kale, Ashton, Payton and Teagan. She was predeceased by her sister Hedy (Reckziegel) Bosco. Survived by cousins, nephews, nieces and friends Dorit was born in Outremont, Quebec on September 1st , 1922. Dorit and her family moved to Europe when she was about 5 years old and lived in Gablonz, Czechoslovakia. Dorit attended and finished school in London and practiced nursing skills during the war. After the war, Dorit married Peter Chrastina and they moved to Montreal to join her parents and to raise their family. Dorit later married Tony Whitty and moved to Hawkesbury, Ontario in the 80’s where she lived for the remainder of her life. Dorit and Tony enjoyed gardening, travelling and yearly February visits to Harbour Island. Dorit was a great cook, she made the best German “Torte” and “Pflaumenkuchen” in the world! She was a skilled seamstress and knitter. She took a Pattern Making course and produced unique clothes for the family as well as elaborated costumes for her daughters’ ballet recitals. She later used her creativity to produce beautiful silk batiks. The family would like to sincerely thank Francine Larocque who provided Dorit with years of dedicated care and loving friendship. We would also like to thank the staff of Prescott and Russell Residence for their dedicated care to Dorit over the years. A celebration in her memory will be held at Côte des Neiges Cemetery, at a later date convenient for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance of Dorit may be made to the Alzheimer Society, C.P. 1852, Cornwall, Ontario, K6H 6N6 or to the charity of your choice and they would be greatly appreciated by the family.
