on Monday, February 11, 2002 in Ottawa. She was the beloved wife of, and true best friend to Michael Young for 40 years. She is remembered lovingly by her children, Laura Young (Robert Gregoris) of Sudbury, Ontario, Douglas Young (Louise) in Victoria, B.C. and Catherine Dahl (Howard) in Vancouver B.C., and by her grandchildren Erik, Neal, Glen, James, Jonathan and Robert. Born and raised in Leaside, Toronto, she taught at Rolph Road School in Leaside, in Dartmouth, Halifax, N.S. and later at Snowcrest Public School in North York. A talented athlete, she played centre on the ladies' basketball team that won the Eastern Canadian Senior B League Championship in 1962. Also in 1962, she met and married Michael and moved into her life as a Navy wife in Halifax. She did her tours of duty in Halifax, England, Scotland, Ottawa and Toronto before returning to Ottawa in 1983. An avid bridge player, she also enjoyed music, her garden, golf and happy summers at the cottage in Fenelon Falls. Friends may pay their respects after 1 p.m. on Friday, February 15 at the Kelly Funeral Home, 3000 Woodroffe Avenue, Nepean (south of Fallowfield Road). A service in celebration of her life will be held in the chapel at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
