Passed away peacefully in Victoria, B.C. on February 20, 2002. Born January 18, 1922 in St. Marys, Ontario, she was the second daughter of the late Harry and Dorothy Rawling of Stratford, Ontario, She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Amory Russell Shields, sons Stephen (Gail), Gregory (Heather) and Robert (Anne), sisters Mrs. George Boundy (Grace) and Mrs. Jean Humphrys, and grandchildren Kevin, Mark, Jason, Sara, Scott, Elizabeth and James Shields. A dedicated professional in special education, Norma taught in Highgate, Toronto, Burlington, Ottawa and Victoria public schools and numerous Sunday Schools touching many young lives as she and the boys followed Amory in his Naval career appointments. She joined or formed book clubs wherever she lived, and in her spare time created beautiful tapestries. Norma was also a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, following with keen interest, progress and achievements of each in chosen careers, sports and artistic activities. Special thanks to Dr. Saunders, Dr. Leduc, and the staffs of the Victoria General Hospital, 7th floor south and the Eric Martin Pavilion 5th floor for the compassionate care Norma received during her final illness. A Memorial Service and celebration of Norma's life will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 680 Courtney Street at Douglas, Victoria, B.C. on Monday, March 4, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. Reception following. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Wycliffe Bible Translators, or charity of choice. Interment of her ashes in Lakeview Cemetery, Meaford, Ontario, will take place at a later date.
