Peacefully at home, Saturday, March 2, 2002. Robert Joseph Burgess, age 81. Devoted husband of 56 years to Winnifred Foran. Loving father of Bruce (Angela), Barry, Kathy and Randy (Colleen). Dear grandfather of Kelly, Lani, Marion, Joanna, Katie and Bridget. Great-grandfather of Liam, Tristen and Riley Schnurr. Brother of Ruth Fisher and Bill. Predeceased by siblings Evelyn Thompson, Dorothy Burgess, Ralph, Harold and Walter. Bob was born in Ottawa in 1920. He served his country overseas in WW2, and returned home to begin a 20 year career as a reporter and columnist at the Ottawa Journal newspaper. In 1965 he joined the federal civil services as an information officer, where he continued to use his information gathering and journalism skills until his retirement in 1985. A "Swing Era" musicologist, Bob hosted his own radio show, "Big Band Stereo Dance Party" on CKBY-FM in the early 1970's. He was also active in the local theatrical community, producing several musicals. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 2313 Carling Avenue (west of Carlingwood) Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service Wednesday in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment Pinecrest Cemetery.
