James B. HAWKINS

died peacefully of old age on Sunday, March 24, 2002 in the presence of his family, in Kitchener, Ontario. Husband of Jean (nee: Wallace) and father of James and Pierre, grandfather of Scout and Gavin. Jim is also survived by sisters Evelyn and Bet and predeceased by brother Alf and sisters Mary and Net. Born June 15, 1909, in King's Heath, Worcester, England, Jim emigrated to Toronto, Canada as a child. Raised in Toronto, and active in the YMCA organization, Jim served in the Merchant Marine in World War II. For over twenty-five years, he worked at Canada Sands Papers Limited in Montreal, Quebec and Plattsville, Ontario, as General Sales Manager until 1974. Subsequently he worked for FlexOvit in Angola, New York. Jim found a great many interests in life. Above all, he liked people, he was fulfilled in his work, and he loved his family. A visitation (closed casket) will be held at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King Street West, Kitchener on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 (only) from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be no funeral service but a memorial service will be held at a later date, to be determined by the family. A private family burial will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto, Ontario. Jim's family wishes to thank all those who assisted Jean in Jim's care and visited Jim in his later years. Special thanks to Lois Dafoe, Jillian Delafranier, Cathie Lindhorst, Claude Pellerin, and Irene Pratis. The family also appreciates the fine professional care given to Jim by his physician, Dr. Norman Bodkin. At the family's request, no flowers need be sent.
