peacefully in hospital at Ottawa, on Thursday April 10, 2002, at the age of 89. He was the loving husband of the late Thelma Hopper. He was the father of Mrs. Jack Riede (Doris), Mrs. Walter Wisniowski (Donna), and the late Glen Hopper. He was the grandfather to Joseph, 28, and Jamie Wisniowski, 25, and Chelsea, 12, and Zackariah, 11, Hopper. A son of the Great Depression era, he was a believer in Christianity, family, community, and hard work. His tenet was: "There's no such word as can't." This philosophy guided his accomplishments. He was an Elder of the Merivale United Church, served as a school trustee, was active in senior organizations, earning a Volunteer award. A farmer, a businessman and land owner, he forged success in many endeavours, together with his wife and life partner. He was a patriarchal figure to many, some close cousins living near: Wayne, Wenda, Gary and Karen (Stinson), and others in Manitoba and elsewhere. His family, community, and friendship connections spanned generations, cultures and creeds. He will be much missed by all who held him dear, and well remembered by the many to whom he extended the hand of help. He endeavoured to live by the principal he held the most central: "Do unto others as ye would have them do unto you." Friends may call at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes 403 Richmond Rd., at Roosevelt, on Sunday April 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until Funeral Service in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Merivale Cemetery.
