Professional Engineer (Ret'd.) Department of Transport Peacefully in hospital, after a short illness, on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at age 81 years. Beloved husband of the the late Wilhelmina (nee Kuh). Loving father of Marjolyn (Ted Rutherford), Peter (Stella), Roeland (Kerrin) and Erik (Gillian). Cherished Opa of Terry, Jeremy, Rebecca, Travis, Donovan, Darcy, Kristina, Carlin, Amy and Hana. Brother of the late Joop of the Netherlands. Born in the Netherlands, he was an officer in the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (1940 - 1950). Interned in Japanese POW Camps in Burma and Japan during WW II. Later Fred worked as a Professional Engineer in the Netherlands, Montreal and Ottawa. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Ave. at Richmond Road, Ottawa on Saturday, April 20, after 1 p.m. until a Service of Celebration of his life in the Chapel at 3 p.m. Memorial donations in the name of Fred Val to the Queensway- Carleton Foundation would be appreciated.
