S.O.S. Sister Evelyn Died peacefully at the Houses of Providence, Providence Centre, Scarborough, ON, Monday, April 29, 2002 in the 61st year of her Religious Life. Born in Ottawa, ON September 5, 1908, she was one of the eight children born to John James Tunney and Mary Jane Dea. She was predeceased by her sisters, Sister Gladys Tunney, G.S.I.C., Muriel Stapleton (Emmett), Agnes (Milton) Johnson, and by her brothers Edward (Olive), Emmett (Veronica) and Raymond. She is survived by her sister, Sister Helen Tunney, G.S.I.C. and several nieces and nephews. Before entering the Sisters of Service in 1941, Sister Evelyn worked as an accountant for 15 years and held supervisory positions in various Federal Government Departments in Ottawa, ON. She continued to apply her knowledge and experience in the S.O.S. Residence in Montreal, PQ and for 19 years as a Business Manager at St. John's Hospital, Edson, AB. Retiring from this position in 1975, she was Editor of "The Field at Home", the S.O.S. quarterly magazine from 1975 - 1984. Family and friends may call at Scarborough Retirement Centre, 7th floor, 148 Markham Road, Scarborough, ON after 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. May 1 in the Sisters of Service Chapel, 7th floor of Scarborough Retirement Centre.
