Former N.R.C. employee and long time employee House of Commons With deep sadness, we announce the death of Robert Arthur "Bob " Lay, son of Elizabeth "Betty" Challis and the late Robert Lay (1963), in hospital on Saturday, May 25, 2002 after a long illness. Surviving are sisters Judith and Helen "Georgia", brothers Brian and John (Lilly Quitain), a nephew Robert (fiancee Amanda Chapman), and nieces Tracy Lay and Sylvia Johnson-Lay. Bob's extended family included Mark Mueca, Christopher, Christian and Christine Roger, William and Kyle Barber. He is also mourned by numerous cousins and dear friends. Born in Ottawa in 1932, Bob attended Osgoode and York Street Public Schools, Lisgar Collegiate and Carleton University. Following graduation, Bob was employed at the National Research Council. After travelling abroad for a year, he returned home and later joined the staff at the House of Commons, where he faithfully served several M.P.s and Cabinet Ministers. He retired in 2001 but was unable to fully enjoy his retirement due to recurring illness. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Saturday, June 8 from 2 p.m. until the Celebration of Bob's Life at 3 p.m. A reception in the McGarry Family Reception Centre will follow.
