The family of Barbara Meiklejohn (nee Eason) is sad to announce her death on June 7, 2002, at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 87. Barbara was born in Saltash, Cornwall, England in 1914 and emigrated to Canada in 1936. Except for the period of the Second World War, she lived from that time on in Canada, in Ottawa until 1965 and in Victoria since then. She was trained in dance and drama and taught drama at Elmwood School, Ottawa, the Ottawa Little Theatre and Norfolk House in Victoria. She was also involved for much of her adult life in amateur theatre at the Ottawa Little Theatre and with several companies in Victoria, along with her husband, Michael, who predeceased her in 1989. She is survived by her daughter Julia (and husband Colin Hodgetts) of Hartland, Devon, England and son Christopher (and wife Belle) of Winnipeg; grandchildren Andrew, Claire and Laura Meiklejohn and Catherine Hodgetts and great-grandchildren Jacob and Amylea Meiklejohn. Many thanks to the staff of Craigdarroch Care Home where Barbara had lived since May 2000, to the many friends who supported Barbara at Craigdarroch, to Mary Green and the staff of Marycare Support Services and to Dr. Jane Wright and to the staff of 6C North at Victoria General who provided care and deep compassion in the last week of her life. Funeral arrangements were handled by McCall Bros. of Victoria. Cremation was occurred. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of St. John the Divine in Victoria on Thursday, June 20, at 2 p.m., the Rev. Karen Fast officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined.
