1947-2002 Bill Ostafichuk, beloved husband of Susan of Calgary, left this world peacefully on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 to start a new adventure, at the age of 54 years. Besides his wife of twenty-eight years, Susan (nee Reid) and the joy of his life, his daughter Katrina, Bill is survived by his mother Pearl of Ottawa; two brothers and sisters-in-law Michael and Fay of Calgary, and Jeff and Karyn of Ottawa; and two sisters and brothers-in-law Cindy and Peter, and Pat and Bill, all of Trenton, Ontario. Bill is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father John in 1985. Bill was born on November 29, 1947 in Ottawa and lived there most of his life. As a youth, he was active in Air Cadets, earning his private pilot's license, and remaining with them for thirty years providing and offering his leadership, guidance and his outstanding organizational and fund-raising skills retiring with the rank of Major. Bill enjoyed a long, loyal and professional career with the National Energy Board, joining them in 1972 immediately upon graduation from university. With their support, he went back to school part-time obtaining his Masters degree in the early 1980's. When the National Energy Board moved to Calgary in 1991, Bill, Susan and Katrina eagerly made the move as well. While born an Easterner, "Wild" Bill soon fell in love with all things Western: the Calgary Stampade, country music, Banff and the mountains and horses. Only in one area did his heart remain true to the East, his beloved Montreal Canadiens. One of the biggest thrills of the Western part of his life was participating in the Hooves of History Cattle Drive in the Fall of 2000. A celebration of Bill's life and final ride into the sunset will take place at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY's "Crowfoot Chapel", (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Monday, August 12, 2002 at 3:00 P.M. In keeping with Bill's love of the West, relatives and friends are invited to dress in western attire for the service. A Service will also be held in Ottawa in early September. Announcements to follow. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Humane Society (S.P.C.A.), 1323-36th Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB.
