(nee Perry) Peacefully in her 91st year on Monday, September 1, 2002 at a nursing home in Ottawa. Dearly loved wife of 65 years of William John Fletcher, loving mother of Leo (Emma) and Rosemarie (Robert Biggar), dear grandmother of Alex; Chris and dear aunt of Frank and Annabella of Sydney, Australia. Following her B.A. degree in 1932 she obtained her Diploma in Education at the University of London, England and began a teaching career. Soon she found absorbing interest in children with speech difficulties and took further studies in Speech Therapy, followed by private practice in England, Scotland and then in Canada after WWII. By further studies she achieved the highly regarded Certificate of Clinical Competency of the American Speech and Hearing Association, passing the required formal examination; and eventually retired in 1998, recognized as the Canadian with the most years of speech therapy practice, she had helped literally thousands of children overcome their speech problems which could of had severe consequences. As well, in her favourite sport of tennis, she played for London Universities' team, and won many tennis events in England, Scotland and Ottawa, Canada. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road, on Thursday, October 3, 2002 after 12 noon until the Memorial Service in the chapel at 1 p.m. Private interment of the urn at Hope Cemetery after the service.
