On Tuesday, September 10, 2002, Betty died peacefully at Carleton Lodge in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of Bob Race. She was predeceased by brothers Dick and Don Symes. Loving mother of Robert (Rosemary) of Halifax, Peter (Susan) of Ottawa, and Christopher (Suzanne) of White Rock, B.C. Loving nana to Curtis, Natalie, Peter and Robin. Betty will be remembered for her selfless dedication to volunteer work on behalf of Meals on Wheels, Carleton Lodge and, the early days of the Miller's Oven in Manotick. She will be fondly remembered for her generous spirit, her wit and wisdom, her boundless hospitality and her outstanding dinner parties. Special thanks to the nursing staff of the Wellness Centre of the Empress Kanata, and to the staff of Carleton Lodge. A private, family memorial service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, Manotick on Saturday, September 14th. Friends are welcome to a reception in the church hall at 1:15 p.m. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice. The Ottawa Citizen, 13-09-2002
