Peacefully in hospital, Thursday, September 26, 2002 after a valiant battle with cancer. Paul Babey, beloved husband of Millicent (Milli). Loving father of Debby Bullen (Bob) and Crystal Babey. Cherished Papa to Kyla and Haley. He will be missed by his sisters Pauline Schneider, Sophie Lynkowski, his brother John (Irene) and loving friends and neighbours. Predeceased by brothers Mike (Mary), Bill (Sophie) and sisters Susie, Mary, Annie, Irene, Lena and Dorothy. His illustrious career spanned from President of the Farmer's Union of Alberta, first President of Unifarm, Vice-Chairman of the Environment Conservation Authority, Chair of the National Farm Products Marketing Council, Vice-Chair and Chief Operating Officer Farm Credit Corporation and Senior Advisor to the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Agriculture Development Branch. In 1986, Paul received an honorary doctorate of Laws from the University of Alberta and in 1992 was inducted into the Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 1255 Walkley Road (east of Bank) Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service Tuesday in the Chapel at 10 a.m. Donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre Foundation appreciated. In honour of Paul's life of helping other people, please write the Minister of Health and advocate for other cancer patients who require the new chemo oxaliplantin and can not receive it because of the unethical interest of the pharmaceutical company, Sanofi. The family would like to thank Drs. Verma, Kelly, Jonkers and the nursing staff on the 5, and 6, floors of the Ottawa General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
