(1922-2002) On September 29, 2002 in his eightieth year, Frank Ivor Algar died peacefully at his home in Brockville, after a valiant fight with cancer. Beloved husband of his wife of 53 years, Agnes, dear father of Stella (Bruce) of Guelph, Evelyn (Fred) of Ottawa, Mark (Liz) of Allen, Texas, Cynthia of Vancouver, Mary of Vernon and Heather Green of Ottawa. Grandfather to Amanda, Melanie, Grant, Jonathan, Russell, Dylan, Tamara, Christine, Heather, David, Philip and Christopher. Brother to Pat (Gerry) Couillard of Burlington, Bea Stephens of Coquitlam, brother-in-law to Don Hadden of Sechelt, and numerous family and friends. Predeceased by sisters Hazel Hadden and Stella and brother Peter Rugge. Frank was born in Montreal and had his first job with the Montreal Gazette. He graduated from George Williams College where he studied at nights and shortly thereafter went overseas in service. By 1949 he was working as a Customs agent in the Yukon where he met Agnes and started to be active in many organizations and community causes. Brockville became home in 1985 and allowed Frank to pursue his love of sailing. Frank's interest in travelling and people saw him take many trips throughout the world. Frank was a unique and incorrigible individual, always advocating for others and speaking for what was right and just. His persistence and humour became a trademark to those who knew him. His support, experience, and integrity will be missed by numerous organizations in Brockville and Ottawa, especially his work with the Canadian Association of the Hard of Hearing where an Award of Merit is awarded annually in his honour. His family will remember his love, support and humour, especially his mastery of puns. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Barclay's Funeral Home, Brockville, on Friday, October 4, 2002 from 7 to 9 p.m. In celebration of Frank's life, a ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday October 5, 2002 at Trinity Anglican Church in Brockville, followed by a reception at the church for light refreshments and sharing of memories.
