Robert Louis ROGERS

1919 - 2002 Retired External Affairs In Ottawa on Sunday, September 29, 2002. Survived by June (nee Wrong), children Chris, Peter (Catherine), Becky (Roger), Hume (Azucena), and grandchildren David, Andrea, Amanda, Rilla and Simon. Attended the University of Toronto. Volunteered for the Canadian Army in 1941 and joined the Lincoln & Welland Regiment as a Junior Officer. Active service in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany rising to the rank of Major and becoming the Adjutant of the Regiment, mentioned in dispatches. From 1946-1985, he represented Canada in Embassies and High Commissions in the United States, Japan, Great Britian, France as Ambassador to Israel, Deputy High Commissioner to Great Britain, Ambassador to Yugoslavia, High Commissioner to India and Ambassador to the CSCE in Madrid. Held various posts in Ottawa including Director General for Asian and Pacific Affairs and Ambassador at large and Secretary General of the CSCE Conference on Human Rights held in Ottawa in 1985. A Memorial Service will be held at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Thursday, October 3, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. Reception to follow at the McGarry Family Reception Centre.
