World War II Veteran It is with great sorrow and sadness that the family announces the passing of Jerzy "Pawel" Sawicki, age 82, on Thursday, the 10th day of October, 2002. The much loved husband, friend and partner of 58 years of Halina "Ala" (nee Tarkowska), and father of Margaret and Anna. A member of the Polish Resistance (Armia Krajowa) during World War II, he fought alongside his wife and countrymen for the liberation of Poland. His battle is over and he will be sorely missed by his many friends. Many thanks to the Fire Department, paramedics, emergency and C.C.U. staff of the Ottawa Civic Hospital and Heart Institute for such efficient and sympathetic care. Friends may call at McEvoy Shields Funeral Home, 235 Kent Street on Sunday, October 13, between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. (Rosary at 3:00 p.m.), with a Funeral Mass to be held at St. Hyacinth's Polish Church on Lebreton Street on Monday, October 14th at 10:00 a.m. A private cremation will follow.
