President, Robert Brown & Son Monuments Ltd. Since 1877 In hospital on Sunday, October 13, 2002, after a lengthy illness, only son of the late Melvin Brown and Jessie Boyes. Husband of Mary Evelyn (nee Watson) and father of Robert (Bethany) and Andrew, both of Ottawa, and Jeffrey of Victoria, B.C. Grandfather of Jessie and Margaret. Also survived by his sister, Gloria Burnett of Oklahoma. Robert's exceptional talent and his lifelong pursuit of innovation and excellence in lettering and stone carving are memorialized in his work which can be seen on many monuments, statues, public buildings and historic sites around the nation's capital and in other areas in Canada and on the Canadian embassy in Washington, D.C. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road, on Friday, October 18, 2002, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 noon until the Service of Remembrance in the chapel at 1 p.m. Private family interment at Beechwood Cemetery. Those wishing may make donations in Robert's memory to the Ottawa Humane Society or the Kidney Foundation of Canada. The family wishes to express its appreciation for the kindness and professional care shown to Robert during his 17-year illness by the doctors and nursing staff of the 6, floor Kidney Dialysis Unit of the Ottawa Civic Hospital.
