Noble Edward Charles POWER

It is with great sadness that the family of Noble E.C. Power announces his death in Barbados on Wednesday, October 16, 2002. Noble was the loving husband of Janet Bradshaw, dear father of Alexandra, Susannah, and Christopher, stepfather to Sophia Morrison. He delighted in his role as grandfather to Sarah, Daniel, Nicholas and Jonathan. He was the brother of Anita Marin, Rosemary Walker, and Chappelle O'Conor, and predeceased by his brother Hugh. Noble was born in Montreal in 1931. He was educated at the Universite de Montreal, Columbia University, the Universidad de Mexico, and the Sorbonne. He believed passionately in foreign aid to developing nations, and pursued this passion for many years in his career with the Canadian International Development Agency and the Department of External Affairs. He was Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana and Ambassador to Togo and Benin (1971 - 1974) and High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Carribean (1983 - 1987). He served as Vice-President of CIDA from 1977 to 1983, and again from 1987 to 1991, he lectured at Oxford on the subject of foreign aid. He was proud to have served as a Lieutenant in the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada. Noble was an enthusiastic student of history and architecture. He participated in and supported many public and educational programs in Barbados, including Codrington School, the Royal Commonwealth Society, the Lancaster Centre for the Arts, the Oxford Society of Barbados, and Counterpart Caribbean. He was a member of the board of directors of a number of Canadian and multinational corporations. Funeral service to take place on Monday, October 21, 3:30 p.m. at St. James Church, Barbados.
