Peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 6, 2002, Lee Sproul, at age 96 years. Loving father of Wayne (Mary Keogh) and Ann Coupland (Tom). Cherished Grandpa of Laura, Sharon, Stuart and Meredith and "Grandpa Lee" to Jackie and Ronnie. Predeceased by sisters Damie and Reba and brothers Hudson, Jack, Bev and Ralph. Son of the late Heber Sproul and Bessie Sproul (nee Miller) all of Newcastle (Miramichi), N.B. Former husband of Hedy (nee MacDonald). A warm, generous, giving man, he was a wonderful, talented musician. Lee was director of numerous bands and choirs including: Lee and His Danceland Kings (the 30's), The North Shore Regiment Band (Miramichi), Member of the Toronto Shriners Band and pianist for silent movies. Having dedicated himself to the service of others over his lifetime, Lee was a recipient of numerous service awards including City of Ottawa Volunteer Awards and the Ontario Volunteer Award. His passion for music carried him to share his gift for the piano, volunteering his time as a member to numerous service clubs including Kiwanis, Rotary, Royal Canadian Legion (Montgomery Branch), Abbotsford House, Glebe Centre and various nursing homes. A creative inventor and a highly educated man, Lee held various degrees in Music, Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and will be dearly missed by many friends and family. Friends may visit at the Memorial Funeral Home of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 584 Somerset St., West Ottawa, on Sunday, November 10 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service to be held Monday, November 11, 2002 at Dominion-Chalmers United Church, 355 Cooper Street (at O'Connor) at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the Church hall. Interment Capital Memorial Gardens. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Kiwanis Music and Dance Festival - Lee Sproul Scholarship Fund would be appreciated.
