Peacefully and with dignity at home on Friday, November 8, 2002 in his 77th year. Survived by his wife of 52 years Betty, his sons Michael and Peter and their partners Doreen and Rick, and his sister Rosemary. Son of the late Fred Lamble Bartlett and Emily Rose Wittington. A graduate of Victoria College, University of Toronto and the London School of Economics, he served with the Colombo Plan, Department of Northern Affairs, Secretary of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, and Secretary of The Canada Council. David was active as a municipal politician, serving the police village of Manotick as a Trustee for seventeen years and subsequently as a Councillor and Mayor of Rideau Township. He developed a regular column in the Ottawa-Carleton Review that was widely read. He also was an avid canoeist, and bridge player, who was curious about everything he saw and patient and wise in the advice that he gave. Friends may call at The Rideau Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 1610 Roger Stevens Drive, Kars (east of Hwy 416) on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Cremation.
