A gentle, compassionate, creative, intelligent man who possessed a keen wit and a passion for world history, passed away on the morning of November 10, 2002. He died as peacefully as he lived his life on this planet. Don was a loving and devoted father to James, Mary, Jane and John and a faithful and loving husband to his wife Marie. He had an adventurous spirit and was open to new ideas and experiences. Don's paintings and drawings reflected his artistic view of the world and become a valuable medium of communication when he lost his speech several years ago due to the effects of a severe stroke. His courage and optimism in the face of serious disability was a testament to his strong character. In his youth he lied about his age in order to serve his country during W.W. II. The harsh realities of war made him realize that the pursuit of material wealth was inevitably a false quest. It was this humble quality that endeared him to his close friends and associates. Don was well liked in every community he lived within. His humourous stories and honest encouragement will be missed to all who knew him. "Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance." - Kahil Gibran A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 12 noon in the Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, Pembroke. Interment of Cremated Remains in St. Columba's Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, Pembroke. The Ottawa Citizen, 13-12-2002
