Avis Jean MARRIOTT

On November 19, 2002, Avis Maxwell passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospice of Edmonton, at the age of 75 years. Avis was predeceased by her husband Alexander Ronald (1983). She is survived by her son Ron (Sheri) of Edmonton, AB, grandchildren Stephanie and Spencer, and step-grandchildren Alex (Kristen) and Owen; her son Michael (Alison) of Vancouver, BC, grandchildren Dylan and Drew; her daughter Karen (Fred) Newton of Woodstock, ON, grandson Chris (Susan), great-grandchildren Curtis and Jenna, and grandson Chuck (Candy), great-grandchildren Dillon and Andrew. She is also survived by her sisters Vera (Gort), Clara, Aileen (Jim), Julia (Pat), and Diana (Richard); and her brother Wayne (Linda). She was predeceased by her sister Gloria and her brothers Lloyd and Don. Avis had deep Maritime roots. She was born and raised in Halifax, met her Saint John husband, Ron, in Goose Bay, and moved around to different Air Force stations until settling in Ottawa. She worked in the Civil Service at the Land Engineering Test Establishment in Orleans until retiring with Ron in 1975. After their retirement, she and Ron lived in their cottage paradise near Jones Falls, north of Kingston, Ontario, wintering in Clearwater, Florida. After losing her husband and best friend in 1983, Avis moved to Woodstock, Ontario, where she became an avid golfer, an active line dancer with the Rockettes, and a strong community volunteer worker for The Red Cross and other organizations. She was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who adored her family. Avis was "such a sweet person" well loved by her family and friends. She will missed by all who knew her, leaving us with many fond memories. Cremation has taken place. The family plans to have memorial services in Woodstock, Ontario and Ottawa, Ontario in the spring/summer of 2003. Also in New Minas, Nova Scotia.
