(May 3, 1944 - December 28, 2002) At the University of Ottawa Heart Institute on December 28, 2002 in his 59th year, after a long and determined struggle with heart disease. He will be remembered by his wife of 26 years, Arlene (nee Venn), his daughters Kristine (Brad Gibson) and Katherine, their mother, Dale, his grandchildren, Sam Moore and Tilda Gibson, his brother Keith (Patricia), his nieces and nephew, and many, many friends. Russ was predeceased by three sisters and both parents. Russ served as an Officer with the Air Force for 27 years, first as a radio officer and then as a pilot with the 405th and 422nd Squadrons (1962-1974). After his first heart attack in 1974, he transferred to the Intelligence Branch (1974-1989). After retiring from the Air Force in 1989, he worked in the private sector, often as a consultant with DND. Throughout his life, Russ volunteered with the Ottawa Distress Centre, the Ski Hawks (Blind Skiers) and Big Brothers. His family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Heart Institute for their superb care and support over the years. A celebration of Russ' life will be held on Thursday, January 2, from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. (remarks at 5:00 p.m.) at Capone's Restaurant, 831 Industrial Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario. All are welcome at this informal gathering. Donations in Russ' memory to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute would be greatly appreciated at: www.ottawaheart.ca/foundation.htm or 40 Ruskin Street, Ottawa, Ontario. The family urges everyone to sign their donor cards and notify family members of their decision. The Ottawa Citizen, 30-12-2002
