John Ross McLean Ross McLean of Gananoque passed away on June 5, 2002 at Kingston General Hospital. Ross was born on the family farm on June 28, 1917, son of the late Nicole McLean and Christina Brash. He attended the one room school #5 and Gananoque High School. In the year 1937 he graduated from Kemptville Agricultural School. He came home to manage the family farm. In 1949 he married Jean Clarke raising one son Brian and a daughter Brenda. He is survived by his wife Jean. Ross had three brothers Kenneth, Howard and Wilmur who predeceased him. He enjoyed farm meetings, anything to do with agriculture. But most of all he liked his home and family, and visiting with Bed and Breakfast guests during his last years of retirement. The outpouring of love for Ross was shown in the number of cards, letters, flowers and gifts and other tributes that were sent during and after his passing. A Celebration of Ross’s life was held at Grace United Church, Gananoque on June 10 with Rev. Ken VanAllen officiating. Pallbearers were his grandchildren Craig, Dean, Mitch Cartwright, Amanda, Trevor McLean and nephew Melville McLean. Jill McLean, a friend, gave a eulogy, a scripture reading and a prayer. Patricia Belfour his favourite All Care worker spoke about working and caring for Ross for many years. Brenda his daughter told the story of her dad. Donna Norman closed the ceremony by singing Amazing Grace. Friends and relatives were invited back to the McLean home for a social hour, provided by Grant Birtch of Merrickville. Ross’s ashes are to be spread on his farm and the remains will be buried at Willow Bank Cemetery at a later date.033023 7/6/2002- ID555526 - Kingston Whig Standard
