Hugh `Karl’ Moreland Of Kingston, Ontario, passed away at St. Mary’s of the Lake Palliative Care Unit, on July 5, 2002. He was 69. Karl was born in the Sydenham area, the son of the late Helen Beatrice Doyle (Moreland) (Wallace) and Hugh John Moreland. Karl attended Sydenham High School and Alymer Police College. He was an O.P.P. Officer and owner and operator of Neighbourhood Grocery and Moreland’s Dairy Bar both of Napanee. He lived in the Kingston area most of his life, but also lived in Napanee and Stayner. Karl was very involved in the community, he coached boys and girls All-Star Baseball. He enjoyed all sports, politics, loved nature and the outdoors, but his main passion was his family. Karl is survived by his wife of 46 years Marguerite `Rita’ Moreland (Chapman), his sons Randy Moreland of Brooklin, Ontario, Chris Moreland (Elaine) of St. George, New Brunswick, his daughters Cathy Stafford (Terry) of Courtice, Ontario and Susan Little (John) of Kingston, Ontario, his brother Wallace Moreland of Napanee, and his grandchildren Shane, Chad, Brealynne, Branndyce-Leigh, Drake, Kyp, Andrew, and his special friends Doug, Lynda, Michayla and Keisha. The funeral was held on July 9, 2002. Rev. Walter Hegadorn officiated. Pallbearers were son-in-laws Terry Stafford and John Little, grandsons Shane and Chad Stafford, nephew Doug Moreland and friend Doug Burns.
