Gary Chapman 1946 - 2005 RIVERVIEW, NB - Gary Chapman, of Hillsborough Rd., Riverview, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Friday, May 6, 2005 after a hard fought and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Moncton, he was the son of Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Williams) Chapman and the late Ralph Chapman. Gary was educated in Moncton, graduating from Moncton High School in 1965 and the New Brunswick Institute of Technology (NBCC) in 1968 with a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology. Gary worked with W.H. Crandall Engineering for many years and finished his working career as a partner with Rice Contracting Ltd. Gary loved the out doors and spent his summers canoeing, camping and hiking and downhill skiing in the winter. Gary was a jogger for many years prior to his illness. He could be seen running faithfully with his pal, Jenny, his golden retriever. He was a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol System for 27 years at Poley Mountain and was the Patrol Leader for 25 years. For many of those years he taught first aid training and on hill first aid. Gary was appointed to the Board of Directors of Poley Mountain Resorts in 2003 but had to resign due to ill health in 2004. Ill health also precluded Gary from taking a large part in the building of the family chalet which overlooks the ski hill. He did however, design the structure and was able to visit the construction site many times and spend a few nights there this past winter. Besides his mother, Gary is survived by his wife of 33 years, Audrey (Smith) Chapman; one daughter, Erin Elizabeth, at home; one brother, John and his wife Tracey and their daughter, Whitney. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in- law and several other nieces and nephews. Gary will be resting at the Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd., Riverview on Monday, May 9, 2005 from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held from Wesley Memorial United Church, 168 Cameron St., Moncton on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Lloyd Bruce officiating. There will be a reception following the funeral. Interment will be in Wilmot Cemetery, Lower Coverdale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital, Extra Mural or, because of Gary's love of animals, the S.P.C.A. or to the memorial of donor's choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Riverview Funeral Home, (506) 857-9544. www.tuttlefuneralhome.com [Times & Transcript]
