John "Scottie" McLean Gibson February 13, 1908 - May 07, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) Passed away on May 7, 2005 at Cowichan Lodge, Duncan, BC. John was born in Lark Hall, Lankshire, Scotland on February 13, 1908. Lovingly remembered by his wife Joan (Boudot) of 62 years and many other relatives. Predeceased by his parents Mr. and Mrs. James Gibson, brothers Tom, James and Hugh and sister Jessie Gardiner. John came to Canada at age 16 with his sister and her husband followed by his family. They settled in Saskatchewan in the 30’s and farmed there. Shortly after, John then came to Cobble Hill and found work delivering fruit weekly over the rough Malahat; he then worked at Sully’s farm in Westholme where he met his future wife Joan Boudot at the Westholme Post Office. John later worked on the west coast steamships before enlisting in the army for several years as a gunner in the RCA 6th anti-tank regiment. Upon returning, he worked for Hydro for 20 years. He took early retirement at age 58 so he and Joan could work on the farm raising cattle and chickens. John loved his vegetable garden and orchard in which he kept vegetables and apples to feed the deer. John was a friendly fellow who was loved by everyone who knew him, he will be sadly missed, especially by his great niece Laurie and family. Special thanks to Dr. Glenn Robinson and the staff at CDH and Cowichan Lodge for all their special care. A graveside service was held on Friday, May 13, 2005 at Mountain View Cemetery, Duncan, BC.
