Howard Joseph MacDonald May 20, 1931 - May 15, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Lower Sackville) MacDONALD, Howard Joseph - Passed away May 15, 2005, at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born May 20, 1931, he was the youngest child of Charles and Caroline (Slaunwhite) MacDonald. Howard worked for the City of Halifax before his early retirement due to illness, for 25 years. He had a passion for walking and was seen walking almost daily. He also enjoyed playing bingo. He was the happiest when friends and family came to visit. He is survived by his loving companion and the love of his life for 37 years, Gertrude, and their children, Harold (Debbie), Gordon (Wendy), Gerald (Catherine), and daughter, Janet (Rickey Brown); daughter-in-law, Norma; grandchildren, Kelly, Chad, Christopher, Carrie-Anne, Justin, Cheryl, Matthew, and Sarah; as well as eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, George; infant great-granddaughter, Mary Diane Clarke-Blackmore; brothers, Fred, Edward, William, Clarence, Harold, Gerald; sisters, Kaye (Brady) and Jenette (Briand). Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. Family flowers only, donations to The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada or charity of one's choice. Funeral service 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, Lower Sackville. Interment to follow in Oakridge Memory Gardens with a reception in St. John Vianney's church hall. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Aiden Carey and Barbara Stewart, Palliative Care and the VON nurses, Cindy Seymour and Debbie Townsend for their loving care shown to Howard.
