Clyde John Martin November 11, 1911 - May 18, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) MARTIN, Clyde John - 93, Oceanview Manor, Eastern Passage, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 18, 2005, in the manor. Born November 11, 1911 in Dartmouth, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mable (Levy) Martin. Clyde was employed with the Dartmouth Marine Slips for 50+ years and during prohibition worked and sailed on the rum runners. After retiring from the shipyards as Mechanical Superintendent, he worked with Maritime Hydraulics for about five years. He was a volunteer fireman with the Union Protection Company (UPC), and served on the board of advisors for Akerley Community College. He was an avid bowler and also was a member of the Model Steam Engine Society. Clyde is survived by daughter, Leah (Paul) Burnitt, Houston; son, Clyde (Linda), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Tony Martin, Michelle Collin, Paul Burnitt Jr., Jill Burnitt; great-grandchildren, Brandon Collin, Michael Martin, Paul Burnitt III "Trace", Maya Collin and Bradley Burnitt. He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude Winnifred. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where Clyde's family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, and from where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Rev. Art Snow officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. If so desired, a donation in Clyde's memory to Canadian Cancer Society, 1-5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6 would be appreciated.
