VENIOT, PIERRE JEAN - Pierre Veniot, 60, passed away at the Montreal Jewish General Hospital on Tuesday, May 17, after a long battle with bone marrow cancer. He was born in Bathurst on July 24, 1944, the son of the late Dr. Louis Maurice Veniot and Esther (Boudreau) Veniot. In his youth, Pierre was an all-round athlete, excelling in baseball as a pitcher with the Bathurst Cubs, hockey as a high-scoring forward with the Bathurst Junior Papermakers, basketball and track and field with Msgr. C.A. LeBlanc High School. Pierre began his long journalism career with The Northern Light of Bathurst, then joined the Canadian Press in their bureaus in Halifax, Saint John, Fredericton and Montreal. He later moved to The Montreal Star, then went to Radio Canada International retiring as senior editor in 2003. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Denyse Chartrand of Montreal, brother-in-law Pierre Chartrand of Paris, and sister-in-law Laurence and her husband Bernard Hogue of Montreal. He is also survived by his mother Esther Adams and step-father Charles Adams, both of Fredericton; brothers Jacques (Francine) of Beresford, André (Kim) of Shediac and Philippe of Porter's Lake, N.S.; sisters Denise (Guttridge) (late Paul) of Balfour, B.C. and Renée Turnbull (George) of Dartmouth, N.S., as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and a sister, Nicole. His remains were forwarded for cremation. Funeral arrangements in the care of the Centre funéraire Côte des Neiges, Montréal. A memorial service will be held there on Friday, June 10 at 1 p.m. [Telegraph-Journal]
