FAHRIG, Walter Frederick August 17, 1926 - May 6, 2005 With his wife, Ruth, by his side, Walter died peacefully in Merrickville at the Hilltop Manor Nursing Home. Until suffering a major stroke last October, Walter lived life to its fullest, thriving on his relationships with family and friends and his insatiable curiosity about science, literature, nature, politics, history and culture. After graduating with his Ph.D. in geology from the University of Chicago, Walter enjoyed a successful career as a research scientist with the Geological Survey of Canada. Walter is survived by his wife, four daughters Kristen, Lenore, Martha Macfie and Rebecca and three grandsons who will all miss him greatly. To honour Walter's desire that we "Throw a party" after he is gone, there will be an open house at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 13th at 406 St. John Street in Merrickville. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of Canadian Broadcasting or to the Merrickville Day Nursery School would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Lannin Funeral HOme in Smiths Falls (613-283-7225). Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 5/7/2005 - 5/10/2005
