SCOTT, Patrick Gregory Jazz Critic and Journalist Born January 7, 1927 at Ottawa and died, awash in his beloved jazz, on May 10, 2005 at Cumberland Lodge. Son of the late Florence and Edward Scott. Patrick began his career in journalism as a cub reporter and later city editor at the Guelph Mercury, then managing editor of The Northern Daily News in Kirkland Lake, telegraph editor and news editor at the Windsor Star. From 1957-67 city editor, telegraph editor, news editor, chief copy editor directing the universal desk and author of the weekly Jazz Scene column at the Globe and Mail and for 10 more years at the Toronto Star as entertainment editor and city editor as well as writing a regular column about radio, television, the movies and jazz. After two years as correspondent in Paris for the Star, he returned briefly to be editor of The Canadian Magazine before moving back to Windsor to teach journalism at St. Clair College. Health problems forced him into premature retirement and he has lived in the Ottawa area for the last 12 years. He is survived by his wife Maggie (Margaret Urmston), his first wife Daphne, their two sons Peter and Andrew and one granddaughter. Family invite relatives and friends to Racine, Robert & Gauthier Funeral Home, 180 Montreal Rd., Ottawa (241-3680) on Friday May 13, 2005 from 10 a.m. until time of service which will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.
