Arthur Edward WOOD

WOOD, Arthur Edward (Lt. Colonel) Passed away peacefully on May 12, 2005 - his 90th year with Joy, his loving wife of 59 years at his side. Born May 16th, 1915 he lived a full life. A champion Ontario paddler and graduate of Queen's University-Psychology he served in World War II as a Tank Commander- First Canadian Armoured Brigade in Italy. He served as a Reserve Major (2.I.C.) with the Governor General Foot Guards and Lt. Colonel commanding the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards. President and Founder Wood's Advisory Service in Ottawa 1958-1975, he was both community and politically active, including a Past Chairman of the Ottawa School Board. While aboard their ketch TIGIFF, he and Joy wrote a regular column for the Toronto Sun called 'Sail Away'. They settled on Galiano Island, BC where Art served as the First President of the Galiano Health Care Society and was a Past-President of the Galiano Lions Club. Survived by his wife Joy, son John and daughter-in-law Phyllis, North Bay, Ontario; daughter Lesley and son-in-law Neil, Richmond, BC and grandchildren Megan, Sarah, Eden and Alicia; Brother and sister-in-law John and Bev Lund and their family; Cousin Philip Wood and wife, and his late brother Mike's children Lavinia, Bobbe, Susan and Ted. Art made a difference in the lives he touched and will be sorely missed but so lovingly remembered. Donations made to the Parkinson Society of BC much appreciated.
