HOFMEISTER, Paul Gerhardt (Gerry). Peacefully on Thursday, May 26, 2005 after a long illness. Beloved chosen son of the late Majer and Emma Lewkowicz. It was Emma and Majer who founded the famous St. Viateur Bagel Shop, and gave its special flavour to the city of Montreal. From its beginnings, Gerry was a fixture in the shop and Majer and Emma's right arm. His kind nature, quiet manner and wisdom made him beloved by staff and patrons alike. Those left behind to honour his life are his stepsister/best friend Hermine Ashton and brother-in-law Peter Tannenbaum, Marco and Carole Sblano and their sons Johnny and Vince, Joe Morena, and Serge Kouyouhdjian. A heartfelt thanks is given to Dr. Alfred Illescas, his close friend and physician, whose special attention and thoughtfulness to him is greatly appreciated. Visitation will be at: 1255 Beaumont on Monday, May 30 beginning at 1 p.m. followed by services at 2:15 p.m. Burial at the Mount Royal Cemetery.
