Eric STABLER

STABLER, Eric 1920-2005, Born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, early on Eric set a life course. Out of necessity he developed a singular determination. Self supported, he excelled at his City & Guilds exams in woodwork, the metalwork, and qualified to teach. I n 1957 he immigrated with wife Gwen and son Christopher. He graduated with a BA from McMaster University (night school), teaching in Guelph until 1969 when a department headship in Dunnville offered a new challenge. The most needy students, beneficia ries all, became a source of enormous pride. On retirement to St. Catharines, he pursued his lifelong love of gardening and Ham radio (nurtured at Bletchly Park during WWII). He was a past member of the Masons and volunteered for the Warehouse of Hop e. After a prolonged illness, Gwen died. There had been purpose in his care for her without with he was bereft and with characteristic determination he has joined her. A service of commemoration will be held at Grace Anglican Church, 238 Geneva St., St. Catharines, ON (905) 685-7412 on Saturday, May 21st, 2005 at 1 p.m. The family wishes to thank the many family and neighbours for their support of both Gwen and Eric. Particularly heartfelt thanks are extended to Dennis Dunbar and Jean Johnson fo r care beyond measure, both of whom exemplified the true spirit of friendship and neighbourly love.
