Velma Elizabeth Linnen, 88 Velma Elizabeth Linnen, of Cardinal, died peacefully at Brockville General Hospital on Feb. 7, 2005, at the age of 88. She was born Oct. 24, 1916 at Inkerman, Ont. Her parents were George Riddell and Lottie Elliott. She married Clarence "Dick" Linnen on Sept. 3, 1938 in Iroquois. Velma was a homemaker and member of the ACW and St. Monica's Guild. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing euchre, needlework, reading, family camping trips and life at the cottage. They enjoyed winters in Florida after Dick retired. She is survived by her sons Gary and his wife Anna of Cardinal, Glen and his wife Lorna of Cardinal, Rick and his wife Joan of Charleston Lake, her daughter Susan and her husband Bill Phillips of St. Catharines, her eight grandchildren Leianna and her husband David Ridley, Lisa and her husband Stephen Bell, Heidi and her husband Dave MacDonald, Nancy and her husband Nino Dettorre, Rodney and his wife Chris, David and his fiancée Karli, Scott and Elizabeth Phillips, her 16 great-grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, two sisters (Jean Miller and Evelyn Riddell), two brothers (Lloyd and Arnold Riddell) and a grandson (Bradley Phillips). Family and friends called on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at the Marsden McLaughlin Funeral Home, Cardinal. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Cardinal. Rev. Doug Hayman officiated. Spring interment to be at Sandy Hill Cemetery, Prescott. Pallbearers were David and Scott Phillips, Wilson Hatfield, David Ridley, David MacDonald and Stephen Bell. Memorial donations were made to St. Paul's Anglican Church and palliative care.
