HOWARD (McGUIRE), ROSE MARGARET - age 79, of 135 Kennedy Court, New Glasgow passed away peacefully on May 30, 2005 at home surrounded by her family and loving husband Leslie (Hank). Born May 2, 1926 in Newburg, Carleton County, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Martin McGuire and Mary Ellen (McDade) McGuire. A faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton, she was actively involved with the CWL and for a time was secretary of Our Lady of Lourdes parish office. She was also an instructor for the Christopher Leadership course for 10 years. She was formerly employed as a secretary at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton and with Sears Canada in New Glasglow. As well as belonging to the Pictou County Food Bank and the Pictou County Arts and Crafts Association, she was also a Wolf Cub Leader for the Boy Scouts of Canada for 12 years. She was one of the founders of the CWL bridge club and playing bridge was one of her real passions. She was a very warm and caring mother whose husband and children were uppermost in her mind. Left to celebrate the memories of their wonderful life together of 56 years is her husband Leslie Gordon Howard (Hank). A cherished loving mother, she also leaves to mourn her four children: Peter (Donna), Stellarton; Janet (Bert) Griffon, Dartmouth; Eric (Debbie), Steve (Sue), both of Edmonton, Alta. Surviving grandchildren are Kristopher and Kimberly Griffon, Brent and Graham Howard, Patrick and Conor Howard. She is also survived by her loving sister Mary and brother Mike as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Susie, Nora and Reta, brothers Charlie, Leo and Joe. Visitation 2-4PM and 7-9PM Thursday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home New Glasglow. A funeral mass to celebrate Rose's life will be held at 11AM on Friday from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Bill Bourke officiating. Burial in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Family will meet with friends in the church hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, 835 East River Road, New Glasglow, N.S., B2H 3S6 or the Saint Vincent De Paul Society, 122 North Food St., New Glasglow, N.S., B2H 5G7.
