Dolores Lachance October 18, 1932 - June 01, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully, June 1, seven months after being diagnosed with cancer, Dolores, eldest child of Zephirin and Helene (Rivard) passed away surrounded by family at Jocelyn House. She leaves a brother, Ronald (Lynne); three sisters, Jeannette (Marcel), Eva (Robert) and Patricia; ten nieces and nephews, Dan, Melanie, Christine, Amanda, Darcy, Matthew, James, Lise, Tim and Jackie and ten grand –nieces and grand-nephews. Dolores grew up on the family farm at Elie where she first attended Glengarry School; then, Elie School and St. Joseph’s Academy. After graduation she chose to enter religious life with the medical Mission Sisters in the U.S.A. Her travels with the order would take her to London, England, St. Louis, MI and Venezuela. Dolores returned to Manitoba in 1964 to pursue nurse’s training at Winnipeg General Hospital. Her nursing career took her to northern Manitoba, western Ontario and Europe. She, like her father, was a determined traveler, whether it was with senior citizen’s bus tours in this province or trekking across Asia on the famous London to Katmandu bus tour. Strife in the Middle East would force the end of these long excursions only weeks after Dolores’ adventurous journey. Dolores liked to entertain friends with exotic meals that could feature lamb, duck, eggplant, pomegranate, avocado and other notable delicacies. Likely over time, the legacy, which the family will most appreciate, will be the near thousand pictures Dolores took of her nieces and nephews as they grew from infancy to adulthood. While her photo equipment was not expensive, the results of her caring are certainly evident on dozens of occasions. The presence of a small child had a magical effect on Dolores. She could be counted on to make sure that our family gatherings kept the youngest member as its focus. For the excellent and loving care accorded Dolores during the five months she resided at Jocelyn House the family thanks Elaine, Kelly, Jacqueline, Cathy, Helene, Ester, Margarete, Anna and Dr. Jan Mulder. A memorial service will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2005 with a reception to follow.
